January 2025 Update
People visiting Guildford town centre will have noticed that St Edward is now undertaking the first enabling works of the North Street regeneration.
What’s happened so far?
- Woodbridge Road has permanently closed, with diversions expected to remain in place until approximately April 2026 when Leapale Road will be made two-way.
- Enabling utility diversion work has also begun on North Street and Leapale Road.
What’s happening next?
- From Monday 27th January, St Edward will be setting up hoarding and scaffolding in preparation for the first demolition, which will make way for the new town square that forms the centrepiece of the regeneration.
- On Monday 3rd February, demolition will begin, starting with the Old Post Office and other buildings fronting North Street and Woodbridge Road.
The final service diversions will be taking place along North Street and the junction with Woodbridge Road at the same time over the next month.
Businesses in the area not included within the development site will operate as usual throughout.
